Are Acer Laptops any good?

On this Tuesday coming up I plan on buying a laptop. I want the HP Mini-Notebook but I've read one review where a person had many problems where another review had someone who had issues with it but solved them ... so I'm wondering now about the Acer laptops. My friend has one and she hasn't had any problems and she's had it over a yr now ... I find laptop shopping hard. I want something inexpensive but good for its price ... are Acer laptops good? if not, what is ... or what would be your suggestion for something inexpensive but good?

I have a $600ish Acer Extensa 4620z from Best Buy. It hasn’t given me a problem I haven’t been able to solve yet (though I didn’t really care for the version of Vista they supplied it with). Really it’s up to personal preference, but I have no problem whatsoever recommending the laptop I’m typing this on to you.

Acers will do but i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who uses a laptop everyday. The problems for your friend will come right after the warranty is up. All crappy laptops are like timebombs and will break after the warranty. You’re going to want to invest when it comes to something as important as a laptop so i would just get a dell. No celeron processors! Don’t pay over 700 and you’ll get a decent laptop at a good price.
